Emma Hazen is from the Bay Area in California and is here at Gallatin studying issues around Contemporary Art Theory. Last semester she studied in Berlin, and this semester she is excited to be working on the Gallatin Arts Festival staff, which is gearing up for the week-long celebration of the unique artistry and interdisciplinary scholarship of the students at NYU's Gallatin School. She is also working on self-publishing a Gallatin visual arts magazine for her publishing collective, HAUS, with her friend Riley. The magazine is made possible by a grant from the Gallatin Student Resource Fund! Emma is also interning this semester at Artforum and MoMA PS1, as well as working as a fabricator in a woodshop. In addition to her other skills, Emma plays a Yamaha dx9 Synthesizer and acoustic guitar.
Emma aspires to become a curator of contemporary art, and she curated her first exhibit last year at Gallatin Galleries. This summer, Emma is planning a trip across the southwest to research land art and the phenomenological experience.
