DASR Conference

Dean’s Award for Summer Research

The Dean’s Award for Summer Research provides a stipend of $2500 to support projects carried out over the summer months. It was created to encourage advanced Gallatin undergraduates to pursue an original research or creative project related to their concentration.

Amount: $2500

Eligibility:  Applicants must be Gallatin undergraduates entering or in their junior year (and who have at least one semester remaining at Gallatin) at the time of application are eligible. In credit terms, eligible students have earned a minimum of 48 credits and will not graduate before the fall conference.

Deadline: March 1st

In accepting a grant, the student agrees to the following:

  • Maintain and contribute posts to the DASR blog over the course of the summer
  • Write a scholarly paper on their research to be submitted at the end of the summer
  • Present their research at a Gallatin student conference during the fall semester

Failing to complete all requirements in a timely  manner will affect participation in the DASR Conference in the fall semester.

Dean’s Award for Graduating Seniors

The Dean’s Award for Graduating Seniors is designed to fund original research or creative projects pursued after graduation that are related to students’ academic concentrations or senior colloquia.

Amount:  $500 and $2,000

 

Eligibility:  All currently enrolled Gallatin seniors in their final semester.

 

Deadline for January Graduates: December 1st

Deadline for May Graduates: April 1st

Horn Family Fund for Environmental Studies

The Horn Family Environmental Studies Resource Fund supports projects related to environmentalism, environmental studies, environmental activism and events to improve the environment both inside NYU and in the city and the world. Awards from the Fund shall be made to provide resources to students to support independent research, conference attendance, field work, overseas projects and other needs of students focusing on environmental studies.

Amount:  Up to $4000

 

Eligibility:  All currently enrolled Gallatin undergraduates, excluding graduating seniors.

 

Fall Semester Deadline: November 15th

Spring Semester Deadline: April 15th

 

Timeline: Projects must begin no sooner than the semester following the one in which you apply. Funds will not be disbursed until after the semester in which you apply.

Students must complete projects within 12 months of receiving the award. All applicants who have previously received a Dean’s Award and have failed to complete its requirements will not be considered for another award.

 

Apply for the Horn Fund  

Gallatin Student Resource Fund

The Gallatin Student Resource Fund is designed to provide additional resources to undergraduate students for projects that will foster a greater sense of community at the Gallatin School. Projects can be renewed for a second year contingent upon successful completion and review of the project during its first year.

Amount:  Up to $4000

 

Eligibility:  All currently enrolled Gallatin undergraduates, excluding graduating seniors.

 

Fall Semester Deadline: November 7th

Spring Semester Deadline: March 7th
