Formerly titled Pitch Perfect: A Multi-genre Writing Workshop. Course is not repeatable.
This multi-genre writing workshop will hone that essential and potent skill: an ability to adapt your voice to the medium. The writer's voice is the first thing we encounter in compelling writing.Voice is what persists, whispering in our head, long after the essayist's convictions are aired, long after we have laid the story aside, or closed the browser. Whether you are diving deep into what author Bob Shacochis calls “the literature of domestic experience” or the “literature of the political experience,” we will explore different ways -- like short stories, creative nonfiction and web pages-- to develop your voice. We will practice aspects of the writer's craft: point of view, character, theme, rhythm, structure and so on, and burnish each other’s work with constructive peer review. Texts will include those by Kafka, Cortazar, Ha Jin, Adiche, Kaise Lymon, Melissa Febos, Hemon, Anne Dillard and others.
