Lavelle Porter

B.A. Art History, Morehouse College, 2000

Lavelle Porter is currently a Ph.D. candidate in English at The Graduate Center, City University of New York. His dissertation titled “Black Academic Fiction and the Politics of the Black Intellectual” will be completed in 2012. He is a former staff member at the Center for Lesbian and Gay Studies (CLAGS). He has taught in the English departments at John Jay College, and at LaGuardia Community College where he taught courses on the literature and history of New York City. He is a regular contributor to The GC Advocate , the student newspaper of the CUNY Graduate Center. For the past four years he has also worked as a tour guide with Big Onion Walking Tours, leading hundreds of walks through historic neighborhoods such as Harlem, the Financial District, the Lower East Side, and Ft. Greene, Brooklyn.
