Chris Spain

Chris Spain received his undergraduate degree in bio-agriculture and was a Wallace Stegner Fellow in Stanford University's Creative Writing Program from 1987 to 1988. He is the author of Praying for Rain (Capra Press, 1990), a collection of short stories, and his work has been published in Antioch Review , The Best of StoryQuarterly , Blast 5 Drama , The Henfield Prize Stories , Open City , Story magazine, Zoetrope , and 110 Stories: New York Writes After September 11 . Spain's pieces have also been exhibited at the Sandra Gering Gallery and performed in Symphony Space's Selected Shorts at The Getty. A member of the Writers Guild of America, he is the recipient of a CINE Golden Eagle Award, a New York Foundation for the Arts fellowship, the Pushcart Prize, and the Best of the West award. His teaching interests are in creative writing and film.
