John Castellano is the founder of the SOJ Jazz Workshop Center and Director of The Collective School of Music, an accredited school that focuses on the training of professional contemporary rhythm section musicians. As a long-time adviser and instructor at the Gallatin School, he has applied his professional background as a composer, arranger, and musician to work with students who have concentrations in music business, music performance, and music technology. He is the author of The SOJ Sight-Reading Method and What Every Musician Should Know , and editor of The Collective Contemporary Styles Series , published by Carl Fischer. His principle academic interest is in the history and musical dynamics of American popular music, both as an American art form in its own right and as a powerful world influence.
