Visiting Faculty
Ze’eva Cohen is a dancer, choreographer, and Professor Emeritus from Princeton University. At Princeton, she served as the Head of Dance, a program she founded and directed from 1969 -2009. In fall 1963, Cohen came from Israel to study at the Juilliard School and perform with the Anna Sokolow Dance Company. She was a founding member of Dance Theater Workshop and in 1971, initiated her pioneering Solo Dance Repertory Program, which toured nationally and internationally for 12 years. In 1983, she founded Ze’eva Cohen and Dancers, a company of ten dancers, which performed mostly in New York City. As guest choreographer, Cohen worked with many national and international dance companies including Boston Ballet, Munich Tanzprojekt, Batsheva and Inbal of Israel, and the Alvin Ailey Repertory Dance Company. Her work has been partly supported by the National Endowment for the Arts, the New York State Council for the Arts, and various foundations and institutions, including Princeton University. Female Mythologies , programs dealing with cultural, political, and social issues, focusing on women’s myths and lives. Since 1998, Cohen has worked with the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO), helping create, consult, and oversee their curriculum and Diploma Assessment Criteria for Dance as taught in high schools around the world.
