The Gallatin Program in Global Fashion gives undergraduate students at the NYU academic centers in London and Florence a comprehensive overview of fashion trends in their host countries. The program is offered during the Fall and Spring semesters.
Topics range from the historical evolution of forms and standards of dress; representations of fashion and the body in visual art, literature, film, and mass media; and industrial concerns such as design, manufacture, marketing, and retailing. The program draws from the rich cultures and histories of London and Florence, which have been international centers of fashion for several centuries.
All undergraduates who meet the eligibility requirements for NYU London or Florence are eligible to apply to the fashion program at their chosen site. Formal background knowledge in fashion is not required, but applicants should be able to relate fashion to their academic and/or personal interests. Each fashion program has a limited capacity and cannot accommodate all applicants.
Students accepted into the Gallatin Program in Global Fashion will be enrolled in the following courses, which are required (three total at NYU London, two total at NYU Florence):
Complete an application for study at NYU London or Florence, choose “Fashion,” and complete the supplemental essay.
NOTE: The fashion program has a limited capacity and cannot accommodate all applicants. In addition, qualifying students who are not admitted to the program at their preferred site due to space limitations may be referred for admission to the program at the other site, depending on space availability.
