Each semester Gallatin offers a small number of elective courses on topics such as fiction writing, performance, design, and media studies. Taught by Gallatin faculty, these courses might explore the urban landscape of New York City, for example, or focus on applied critical theory. Arts workshops are typically taught by successful New York City artists, performers, and writers, and designed for both beginning and advanced students. These workshops imagine students as artists and scholars, providing experiential training in the practice of particular art forms alongside opportunities for critical reflection about the artistic process, aesthetic theory, and the sociology of art.
