CAS Courses and Departments that Fulfill the Historical and Cultural Foundation

To fulfill the historical and cultural foundation, students may take courses in several departments and programs of the University, as well as in Gallatin. To see the list of Gallatin interdisciplinary seminars being offered this term that may be counted toward this requirement, please visit the Gallatin’s course listing page.

Below is a list of CAS departments and courses that satisfy an area of the historical and cultural foundation. Please note the list below is subject to change. Relevant courses offered in future semesters will be added to this list, courses that change substantively will be removed. Additionally, these lists do not include a significant number of “topics” courses, which change thematically from semester to semester. Students who take a topics course that is clearly situated in the pre-modern period may petition to have the course counted toward this requirement.
