Convocation marks the formal beginning of Gallatin’s Master of Arts Program, and creates an opening frame for the work about to begin. With a degree or two less ceremony than graduation, convocation is intended to begin an intellectual conversation that will grow over the course of each student’s education. The entering class gathers for a welcome address from the dean, and to hear thoughts from a faculty panel as well. In content, convocation addresses the nature of the graduate experience at Gallatin, and provides helpful advice about the opportunities and challenges that await your first year of graduate study. A luncheon hosted by Gallatin faculty members follows the formal program, with a chance to meet other first year students, faculty and second year students as well.
