The Gallatin Writing Program and the Community Learning Initiative sponsored the 7th Annual Literacy Review Workshops in Teaching Writing to Adults on September 23, with some 150 participants including adult literacy and ESOL teachers, site advisers, students and volunteer tutors. The full day of workshops included such topics as "Teaching Critical Thinking for Everyday Life" and "Make It Messy! Helping Students with Revising. The Literacy Review, the annual book of writing by adults in Basic Education, GED and ESOL programs throughout New York City, was the foundation of several workshops, including "Take the Subway: Writing the Stories of Our Daily Lives." The Literacy Review is compiled by Gallatin students participating in the Literacy in Action course, which combines the academic study of adult literacy and English as a Second Language with supervised volunteer work in adult literacy.
