Rooney Mara Nominated for Oscar

Gallatin Alum Earns Praise for her Role as The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

Rooney Mara

Gallatin alumna Rooney Mara (’10), who is famously embodying The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo in the American version of the movie based on the first book in Stieg Larsson’s best-selling trilogy, has been nominated for a Oscar Award for Best Actress. She has also been nominated for a Golden Globe Award. Mara has been the talk of the town in the last several months, with reviewers and critics commenting on her fearless performance in the challenging, one might even say grueling, role of Lisbeth Salander, the computer hacker with multiple piercings who helps the disgraced journalist Mikael Blomkvist. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was directed by David Fincher, who also directed Mara in the 2010 film The Social Network. The young actress has also appeared in A Nightmare on Elm Street and the film Youth in Revolt as well as in several television shows, including ER and Law and Order: Special Victims Unit.
