Gallatin China Summer Scholarship

Shanghai

The Gallatin China Scholarship provides funding of $6,000 to help undergraduate Gallatin students pursue summer study at NYU Shanghai in either the traditional, non-immersion, six-week Summer Abroad in Shanghai program or in the new nine-week Shanghai Summer Immersion program. Prior knowledge of Chinese is not required for the non-immersion program.

NYU Shanghai offers courses in a wide array of fields which give students the opportunity to study away in Shanghai and experience the excitement and wonder of one of Asia’s most dynamic cities. As a complement to classroom teaching, courses typically include excursions in the Shanghai community and surrounding areas. Students live in the NYU Shanghai residence halls and benefit from NYU’s facilities, professors, and full-time academic and student life staff. Students in the non-immersion program must enroll in at least six credits during the summer program to be eligible for a visa. This course may be Chinese language or a content course, which NYU Shanghai recommends taking alongside a language course. Students in the immersion program must take an eight-credit course load. Preference for the scholarship will be given to applicants whose concentrations would benefit from the study of Chinese language.

Scholarship candidates must apply to both the Gallatin China Summer Scholarship and the Shanghai study away program by the application March 1st in order to be eligible. Please note that the $6000 award amount will be posted as a scholarship to help cover tuition fees for the Shanghai study away program and may not cover full tuition or additional fees for housing, books, and travel. Applicants are expected to make their own arrangements to cover additional tuition and fees.
