Karen Hornick teaches courses that integrate the study of literature, media, philosophy, cultural history, and writing. At Gallatin, she has taught writing seminars and interdisciplinary seminars on gender and feminist theory, modern cultural history, and popular culture theory. Most summers, she teaches a study abroad class on culture and history at NYU Berlin. Trained as a Victorianist, she is currently working on problems regarding serial narrativity and popular aesthetics, particularly in relation to the poetics of television. Professor Hornick has served as a faculty adviser to The Gallatin Review and has served as a Faculty Co-Director of the Gallatin MA program since 2010. In the fall of 2012, she was Research Faculty-in-Residence at NYU London. She is the recipient of a 2009 Gallatin Excellence in Teaching Award and a 2014-2015 NYU Distinguished Teaching Award, which is presented annually to outstanding full-time faculty members in recognition that one of NYU's primary institutional priorities, along with research, is exceptional teaching inside and outside of the classroom setting.
