Paul Thaler's teaching and research interests lie in First Amendment rights and media history and criticism. A former newspaper reporter and magazine editor, he was a Fulbright senior lecturer in journalism to Romania in 1993, where he also wrote a column for the international edition of Romania Libere. He is the author of three books: The Watchful Eye: American Justice in the Age of the Television Trial (Praeger, 1994); The Spectacle: Media and the Making of the OJ Simpson Story (Praeger); and Bronxland (Black Opal Books, 2017) . Thaler's work has been the subject of numerous newspaper and journal articles that have appeared in The New York Times, USA Today, Journal of Mass Communications, Columbia Journalism Review, Quill magazine, and The Cambridge Law Journal. He has also been an on-air commentator for more than 100 television and radio programs, including Nightline, Court TV, CBS News, the BBC, and National Public Radio, and he has been featured in documentaries for HBO and the A&E Network.
