John Ridley

The producer of NBC's Third Watch, John has written the scripts for the feature films Three Kings, Undercover Brother, Cold Around the Heart, and Red Tails. In 2014, he won an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for his screenplay for 12 Years a Slave. He is the creator and executive producer of the 2015 ABC series American Crime. The author of seven novels, including Stray Dogs, which Oliver Stone made into the movie U-Turn, Ridley is also a TV personality and political commentator who has appeared on NBC's The Today Show, PBS's The News Hour, CBS's Late Show with David Letterman, and MSNBC's Morning Joe. He has been a regular contributor to the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, Esquire, and NPR's Morning Edition, and he is the founding editor of That Minority Thing, a nonpartisan news website.
