Maysam Taher is a PhD candidate on the Culture and Representation track of the department of Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies at NYU. Her research takes the Southern Mediterranean as a site of departure for examining how institutions of cultural and knowledge production participate in the global management and governance of borders. She is a 2017-2018 Doctoral Fellow in Urban Practice at Gallatin’s Urban Democracy Lab, where she is collaborating on a project documenting how communities have organized and fought for long-term affordable housing in New York City.
