Earlene Cruz

MA Candidate – Social Entrepreneurship and Food Studies

Earlene is currently pursuing her Master's degree at Gallatin while she works to bring her startup, an online foodie social network, KitchenConnection.org, to life. At Gallatin, Earlene has had the opportunity to further her knowledge of the theories that drive social entrepreneurial endeavors both in the public and private sectors. Her scholarship focuses on social entrepreneurship as it is applied to solving global challenges around food inequity and food insecurity. Earlene is a James Beard Scholar Award Winner and has been nominated as one of the special envoys on youth under the UN Secretary General for her work with the United Nation's Zero Hunger Sustainable Development Goals.

I work under the direction of Dr. Jennifer Berg who heads the Graduate Food Studies program. As my adviser and professor, she has been an incredible support, propelling me greatly to achieve my academic and professional goals--she genuinely cares about both and works with me to make those goals see the light.
