Leaves of Absence

A student may apply for a leave of absence by contacting the Office of Student Affairs, (212) 998-7375 or gallatin.studentaffairs@nyu.edu.

Leaves may be granted for medical reasons, personal hardship, etc., and are generally for no longer than two semesters. When a leave is granted, the student is not required to maintain matriculation, nor will the student be required to apply for readmission so long as he or she returns to the school within the specified time. While on leave, a student may not attend another college or university. The student is required to meet any financial aid or housing deadlines while on leave. If a student is on probation when a leave is granted, the student returns to the school on probation.
