Senior Lao-Tzu Allan-Blitz, who is from Santa Barbara, California, came to Gallatin in part because he wanted to attend a college where he would not be forced to choose from among his long list of interests. At Gallatin, he studied happiness, adding, “My studies ranged from music, theater and dance to organic chemistry, physics and linear algebra. The class that had the greatest impact on his course of studyr, he says, was organic chemistry. “I went into college never expecting to ever take a math or science course,” he says, but Allan-Blitz, an actor and musician, decided to set himself the challenge of taking the pre-med requirements. When he got to organic chemistry, he says, “I was exposed to a profound and elegantly deep scientific form of thought… I was, for the first time, exposed to a way of thinking that was entirely new to me, and satisfying in a way I had never experienced.” .
