James studied in Ghana as part of Gallatin’s program there, and he started the fair- trade fashion cooperative Of Rags with the Ghanaian designer RAAM. The clothing company aims to create jobs for Ghanaian seamstresses and to inject money into the local economy. In addition, the Of Rags Foundation has partnered with a center for children with special needs in Accra. The recipient of a Catherine B. Reynolds Foundation Scholarship, Skinner also worked as an intern at the West Africa AIDS Foundation while in Ghana.
