Elivia Shaw studied film and television writing as well as Middle Eastern Studies. Her concentration, "Visualizing the Postcolonial Middle East," involved literature, film, media, television, drama and other artistic forms. "To me," she said, "Gallatin is the best of a lot of different worlds. You get to be at a large university with a lot of great resources, but you also get a ton of individual attention." Shaw was planning to pursue graduate degrees in history and dramatic writing and to create works for the screen that deal with the Middle East using perspectives different than those typically found in this country's media.
