“And We Are Not Saved” Law and Civil Rights in America

Apr 25, 2013 | 6:30 PM-8:30 PM

Law and Civil Rights in America

A transformation of American law relating to basic notions of fairness and equal opportunity was one of the most important legacies of the civil rights movement. The supreme-court is revisiting that legacy in the current term in reviewing critical cases on voting rights and affirmative action. This is the context that provides the backdrop to this event on the politics of race and law in America. For the human rights initiative this is part of our broader effort to bring human rights conversations home.

The title of this event takes from Derek Bell’s article of that same name.

Speakers include: Fran White, George Shulman, Roopal Patel and Vasuki Nesiah
