Gods and Monsters won an Oscar for Director, Bill Condon for his screenplay based on the novel by Gallatin Professor Christopher Bram. In it Ian Mckellen (also nominated for an Academy Award) plays an aging James Whale, the director of Frankenstein, The film tells the story of an unusual friendship that springs up between the aging director and a handsome much younger gardener played by Brendan Fraser. It is a fascinating character study that lovingly recreates studio filmmaking of the 1930s, gay life in Hollywood, while also being a poignant meditation on memory, mortality and the relationship between art and reality.
Professor Bram will be interviewed by Gallatin professor Patrick McCreery after the show. Please join us for this unique opportunity to view the film with one of its key creators.
