Roman Tragedies Festival

The 2014 Gallatin Fall mainstage production examines Shakespeare’s Roman tragedies through a series of performances, readings, conversations and screenings.

“This body of work that bookends the Roman Republic offers substantial opportunities to investigate politics and power as well as the social ramifications of one’s actions,” explains the Festival's producer Professor Kristin Horton, whose new play collaborations have appeared at the Contemporary American Theater Festival, Lark Play Development Center, and New York City Parks Summerstage, among other venues. “Moreover, it’s striking how Shakespeare’s Roman tragedies can spur a reflection on contemporary attitudes towards politics and sex.”
