Charlottesville: A Gallatin Town Hall
Join Gallatin professors George Shulman, Kimberly DaCosta, Vasuki Nesiah and Alejandro Velasco for a discussion on some of the many issues raised by the events in Charlottesville in August. The protest and counterprotests in Charlottesville offer a window to view an America many would like to imagine is behind us: one in which white supremacists feel emboldened to speak against people of color and Jewish people, one in which the fundamental issue of what constitutes hate speech and what constitutes free speech is called into question. As fascism and white nationalism come out from the shadows, what can we learn about the civic crisis that is enveloping the United States? All NYU students are welcome to attend. Light refreshments will be served.
