Horn Family Environmental Studies Resource Fund

The Horn Family Fund for Environmental Studies supports projects related to environmentalism, environmental studies, environmental activism and events to improve the environment both inside NYU and in the city and the world. Awards from the Horn Fund shall be made to provide resources to students to support independent research, conference attendance, field work, overseas projects and other needs of students focusing on environmental studies.


All Gallatin undergraduate students (excluding graduating seniors) are invited to submit proposals to request support from the Horn Fund. Projects can be renewed for a second year contingent upon successful completion and review of the project during its first year.

Maximum budget per project

Up to $4000

Deadlines for Proposals

  • Fall Semester: November 1st
  • Spring Semester: April 1st

Project Timetables

Projects must begin no sooner than the semester following the one in which you apply. Funds will not be disbursed until after the semester in which you apply.

Students must complete projects within 12 months of receiving the award. All applicants who have previously received a Dean’s Award and have failed to complete its requirements will not be considered for another award.
