GUIDE Program

The GUIDE program is a partnership between NYU’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study and the Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC). Gallatin faculty and advisers mentor several high-achieving BMCC students, preparing them to succeed as full-scholarship juniors and seniors in Gallatin’s rigorous liberal arts BA-degree program.

The GUIDE program is an invite-only program. BMCC will identify a cohort of eligible students who will be invited to attend an information session and submit an application.

GUIDE is tailored to students interested in studying social justice, which is understood broadly to include: social movements, law and governance, urban democracy, economics, identity formation, political literature and art, arts activism, and environmental studies.

Entry into GUIDE follows a substantive and highly competitive application process. BMCC students need to have strong GPA’s, at least one writing-intensive course, and a demonstrated interest in social justice.

In the Fall of the sophomore year at BMCC, up to 8 GUIDE Finalists will take one class each at Gallatin. The cost of NYU tuition, registration fees, and books for the course will be covered by Gallatin, and the course credits may be transferred back to BMCC and applied toward the AA degree. GUIDE Finalists will be welcomed into the Gallatin community, invited to participate in Gallatin and NYU events, and receive additional mentorship as they prepare to apply for transfer to Gallatin and other Bachelor's-degree programs.

In the Fall of the junior year, up to 5 of these students will transfer to NYU Gallatin as GUIDE Scholars. These students will receive full scholarships to NYU, covering all unmet need for tuition and fees for the next four semesters of undergraduate study.
