MA '13 - Social Entrepreneurship and Fashion
Harmeet earned a Bachelor of Commerce degree at the Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary in Alberta, Canada. During her undergraduate years, she also studied at the Cophenhagen Business School in Denmark. When she began looking at graduate schools, she says, “Gallatin was the only school that offered me the flexibility to combine my diverse interests in social entrepreneurship, marketing, sociology, economic development, and fashion and pursue a serious two-year master’s program. It’s been the best mix of passion, academic rigor and interdisciplinary learning.” Harmeet's concentration was social entrepreneurship within the fashion industry and how to employ fashion as a tool for social change–in particular, by connecting impoverished rural artisan women in India with female consumers in North America. She launched the collection REVIVAL Style, which she started with fellow NYU graduate student Allison Taylor. Several designs from their line were included in Sexposed: The Gallatin Fashion Show, held in the winter of 2012.
