He has written about schools and children, including books about science and computing, articles about classroom practice, and social studies curriculum focused on engaging students with diverse and inclusive voices as well as more accurate historical content. Burns helped create and lead an affinity group program that supports children in understanding their own racial identities and experiences of race while also helping them to understand the lives and experiences of their peers.
