Since 2005, Julie Avina has served in numerous roles at NYU, including as Executive Director for Opportunity Programs, Associate Vice Provost, Academic Advisor, Associate Vice Chancellor, and Dean of Students at NYU-Abu Dhabi. The former role she held during NYU-Abu Dhabi’s critical first years. She is currently as the Senior Associate Dean of Student and Alumni Affairs and faculty member at the College of Global Public Health. With a masters in Education and a doctorate in Health Education from Teacher’s College, Julie brings a unique perspective to her work every day, grounded first and foremost in the fourteen years she devoted during her early career to high risk youth, including working with adolescent parents and gang members.
