Anna Captain

BA Candidate - Political Communications with an Emphasis in Leadership and Rhetoric

Anna grew up in Washington state and found her home at Gallatin after transferring into the School in 2021. Her studies have focused on political communications with an emphasis in leadership and rhetoric studies, stemming from her love of sharp writing and belief that headlines craft history. Despite being a transfer student, her professors have shaped her path and transformed her worldview in just two years. She has served as a student mentor as a part of the Great World Text program and edited for the Gallatin Literacy Review. Some of the most consequential courses she has taken include “Narrative Investigations (I and II)” with Stacy Pies and “Magazine Writing” with Alex Halberstadt. Anna currently serves as editor-in-chief of the NYU Politics Society’s opinion publication, In the Zeitgeist, where she also founded the column Off the Soapbox.

Outside of Gallatin, Anna is an avid writer and editor. She has interned with Tessler Literary Agency and with Senator Kirsten Gillibrand. Her professional and personal goal is to work in a space where she can highlight moments of humanity and connection.
