To honor Gallatin graduates on a more personal level, the School conducts its own graduation ceremony. The Gallatin ceremony includes presentations of various awards to graduating candidates, alumni, and faculty. Each graduating candidate is recognized by the Dean. NYU Commencement is the all-university ceremony that takes place at Yankee Stadium. This year, NYU's 187th Commencement Exercises will be held on Wednesday, May 22, 2019.
Detailed day-of information for the Gallatin Graduation Ceremony
The Graduation Ceremony for the Gallatin School of Individualized Study will be held on Tuesday, May 21, 2019, at Lincoln Center’s David Geffen Hall, located at 10 Lincoln Center Plaza on the corner of 65th Street and Amsterdam Avenue, in New York City. The ceremony begins at 6 pm and will last approximately two hours.
On the day of the ceremony, Gallatin staff, who will be dressed in all black and wearing NYU badges, will be on hand to help with general questions, concerns, and to assist with seating. Please direct questions about ticketing on the day of the ceremony to Gallatin staff at Gallatin’s Will Call (look for Gallatin signs to the left of the front Box Office windows).
Students should arrive at David Geffen Hall at 5 pm. At check-in, you will receive your name card. Do not lose this card. After check-in, you will not be permitted to leave the area. Candidates will process into David Geffen Hall together at 5:50 pm. The ceremony officially begins at 6 pm and will last approximately two hours.
All candidates must have a ticket to enter David Geffen Hall. Should you need a replacement candidate ticket, please direct your questions to Gallatin staff at Gallatin’s Will Call. (Look for the NYU Gallatin signs to the left of the front Box Office windows.)
Following the ceremony, there will be a brief cocktail reception on the Grand Promenade of David Geffen Hall. While this event is not mandatory, many Gallatin faculty and advisers will be on hand to meet and greet graduates and their families!
Information about the venue, including parking and coat-check information
Graduating students are responsible for obtaining tickets for their families and guests prior to the ceremony. Students should submit online ticket requests no earlier than April 1, 2019, at 10 am.
Tickets are general admission and do not correspond to specific seats. Seating is offered on a first-come, first-serve basis, so guests should plan to arrive on time.
All ticket-holding guests should plan to arrive by 5:30 pm at the latest.
All guests must have a ticket. Guests will NOT be granted entry to David Geffen Hall without one. Children under 2 will be admitted without ticket, but must sit on the lap of an adult, as each seat is spoken for.
If a graduate needs to leave a ticket for a guest, the student may elect to do so before 5:30 pm by leaving the ticket with the Gallatin staff at Gallatin’s Will Call. (Look for NYU Gallatin signs to the left of the front Box Office windows.)

Doors will open to guests with disabilities or for guests who may need extra time at 5:15 pm; these guests may be accompanied by up to three other guests but no more.
Please note that there is limited seating in the lobby waiting area. Guests with disabilities or guests who may need extra time will be given space on a priority basis as it is available.
Parking is available near Lincoln Center and the Lincoln Center garage has three entrances, one on 62nd between Columbus and Amsterdam, a second on 63rd and Amsterdam, and a third on 65th between Amsterdam and Broadway. The price is $49.00 and advance reservations are recommended. Please call 212-721-6500 to reserve a spot.
David Geffen Hall has a small coat room for stroller and bag storage; these items must be checked prior to entering the theater.
Please inform guests that balloons are not allowed.

Everything you need to know about tickets to Gallatin's graduation ceremony
Graduating students are responsible for obtaining tickets for their guests prior to the ceremony. The earliest that students may request tickets is April 1, 2019 at 10 am. Ticket requests should be submitted by April 28, 2019.
Students must complete the Graduating Student Survey before submitting ticket requests. Upon completion of the Graduating Student Survey, students will be redirected to the ticket request form. Students should request the number of tickets they will need. All students are guaranteed up to 4 tickets. Extra tickets, if available, will be distributed on May 17, 2019, from 10 AM-4 PM in the Gallatin Student Lounge (room 522A) at the discretion of the Office of Student Affairs.

Gallatin Graduation tickets can be picked up at the Gallatin Student Lounge (Room 522A), 1 Washington Place. Ticket pick-up dates are Wednesday, May 1 to Saturday, May 4 from 11 AM to 6 PM; Monday, May 6 to Friday, May 10 from 11 AM to 6 PM; Monday, May 13 to Wednesday, May 15 from Noon to 7 PM; and Thursday, May 16 to Friday, May 17 from 10 AM to 4 PM.
Final ticket pick-up and extra ticket distribution will be Friday, May 17 from 10 AM to 4 PM in the Gallatin Student Lounge. Please watch your email for further information regarding extra ticket distribution.

Third Party Ticket Pick-Up
If the degree candidate cannot pick up Gallatin graduation tickets in person, a third party may pick them up with the following documentation:
If someone else is also picking up your academic attire, make two copies of these documents. One set will be collected as proof of third party ticket pick-up and will not be returned to you.
Information about renting academic attire for the NYU Commencement and Gallatin Graduation ceremony
Academic Attire is strongly suggested for both the NYU Commencement ceremony and the Gallatin Graduation ceremony. Attire may be rented through the NYU Commencement website. All orders must be placed by April 16, 2019. BA caps and gowns cost $53 and MA caps and gowns cost $73.
*You may still rent academic attire online from Herff Jones for home delivery only (additional fee applies) between March 18 and April 16.
All orders after April 16 are considered late orders. Late orders for academic attire may be placed and received in person during distribution hours between May 14, and May 21.
Purple tassels are a gift from the Alumni Association and may be kept by graduates, along with mortarboards. Rented gowns, hoods, and doctoral tams must be returned.
If you elect to keep your attire for the NYU Commencment ceremony, which will take place on Wednesday, May 22, a Herff Jones representative will be onsite at Yankee Stadium to collect it after the ceremony. The last day to return rented attire to Kimmel is May 24. After May 24, attire must be mailed to Herff Jones at the following address:

Information about official ceremony photography
Island Photography will be taking photos of candidates as they cross the stage to shake the Dean's hand. Graduates will receive free proofs directly from the photographer within a few weeks of graduation. Information about the annual reception for graduating students hosted by Gallatin
Gallatin hosts a reception for graduating students each Spring, prior to the graduation exercises. This year, the Reception for Graduating Students will take place in The Jerry H. Labowitz Theatre for the Performing Arts on May 16th, 2019, 6:00-8:00 pm. All graduating students are welcome! For more information see the event details here.
A checklist of important things to do before Gallatin graduation
Special note for BA candidates: In order to participate in May 2019 graduation, you must complete the colloquium requirement by May 17, 2019.
Apply for graduation BEFORE February 3, 2019, on Albert. (Please visit the Registrar's Website for information regarding graduation application deadlines.)
Graduation invitations and eventually your diploma will be mailed to your permanent home address. Be sure to update this information in Albert as soon as possible.
Order All-University Commencement Tickets online between March 18, 2019 and May 10, 2019. Refer to the NYU Commencement Website for further information.
Request Gallatin Graduation tickets between April 1, 2019 and April 28, 2019. Please note that you must first fill out Gallatin's exit survey. Then, you will be redirected to the ticket request form.
Order academic attire online between March 18, 2019 and April 16, 2019. After this date, students must place and pick up academic attire orders at the Kimmel Center, 60 Washington Square South.
