It’s My Park Day

Gallatin's Recent Alumni Council invites you to join Prospect Park and REI to care for Prospect Park! Volunteers will participate in a city-wide effort to care for NYC's green spaces with brooms, shovels, rakes, and trash grabbers. We will focus our efforts on Prospect Park's Lookout Hill.

9:00 - 9:45 am - REI Photo Contest photography lesson
10:00 - 10:15 am - Sign in and project introduction
10:15 am - 12:45 pm - Activity
1:00 pm - REI Raffle

Take your best shot during the volunteer event to win great prizes from REI! From 9:00 - 9:45 am, an REI Outdoor School Instructor will teach techniques enabling you to turn everyday snapshots into beautiful compositions. You'll learn to see beyond your primary subject so that everything in the frame improves the image. Then, use your new skills to capture the day’s events and upload to Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter. The winners will be chosen at the end of the event.

Things to Keep in Mind:

  • Please bring your own water bottle; a cooler will be available for refills.
  • Please remember to wear close-toed shoes and long pants that can get messy.
  • Events will take place rain or shine.
  • Bring a snack or lunch to allow you to work through the day.
  • All the necessary tools and materials will be provided.
  • Remember, you are responsible for your belongings! Please bring only what you are comfortablecarrying with you.
