Gallatin Teachers Reading

Featuring Saul Austerlitz, Vasu Varadhan, and Carol Zoref

Gallatin Teachers Reading, a Writing Program event series at which professors read from recently published books, offers a glimpse into the Gallatin faculty's latest creative and scholarly work.

Saul Austerlitz will read from Just A Shot Away: Peace, Love, and Tragedy with the Rolling Stones at Altamont (St. Martin’s Press, 2018), an account of a disastrous 1969 music festival, called “the most blisteringly impassioned music book of the season” in The New York Times.

Vasu Varadhan will read from On My Own Terms: A Journey Between Two Worlds (Medicas, 2018), a memoir in which personal and family history mingle with world events, bringing forth fundamental questions about immigration, culture, and identity.

Carol Zoref will read from Barren Island (New Issues, 2017), a novel whose narrator recounts her immigrant family's struggles to survive in early twentieth-century New York City, which won the the Goldberg Prize for Debut Fiction, the Harold A. Ribalow Prize, and the AWP Prize for the Novel and was longlisted the National Book Award for Fiction.

June Foley, senior director of the Writing Program, will moderate.

This event is free and open to the public. RSVP is requested.
