Student Spotlight - Dariely De La Cruz

Human Rights Fellowship: Migrant Rights as Human Rights

The Student Spotlight Series features Gallatin students and recent alumni who discuss different aspects of their studies and experiences at Gallatin. Dariely De La Cruz (BA ’22) will discuss her 2020 Gallatin Global Human Rights Fellowship, and her work with El Centro para la Observación Migratoria y el Desarrollo en el Caribe (OBMICA), a think-tank focused on advancing migrants’s rights and social development in the Dominican Republic.

A rising junior at Gallatin, De La Cruz is pursuing a concentration in Social Justice and Human Rights through Activism and Civic Engagement while also on the pre-law track. As an Afro-Dominican coming from a high-poverty, low-opportunity neighborhood in the South Bronx, she envisions herself as an agent of change working to solve the underlying causes of injustice, to amplify voices of the underrepresented, and to foster more democratic and inclusive citizenship.
