Join the NYU Gallatin Dancers/Choreographers Alliance as they present the diverse voices of student choreographers in this semester’s production, (DIS)ASSOCIATE. Choreographed and rehearsed over the semester, the show will run for about an hour and will feature works by eleven student choreographers, performed by forty dancers.
At this juncture in our lives, familiarity feels like both a warm embrace and a distant stranger. We in DCA are accelerating past a pause that seems to have lasted two seconds, two years, and two decades all at once. Our relationships to the world and one another have changed. We are fast-forwarding into a space we have yearned for, eager to catch up with lost time and long-lost connections. Yet we are discovering that the present we now inhabit includes more unfamiliarities, more patience, and more adjustment than we could have imagined.
How we associate with one another and the world around us is sparking unity and isolation. We are eagerly re-associating with a sense of normalcy and dissociating from its all-consuming strangeness and speed. As we gather to move and create together this semester, we are exploring what it means to exist in dichotomy. Is it possible to find joy in both embracing community and a need for solitude?
