Please join Gallatin professor Louise Harpman and other urban enthusiasts as we explore Brooklyn's Working Waterfront for the eleventh annual BIG WALK! A signature Gallatin event, the annual BIG WALK brings together all parts of our academic community as we “walk and talk” about the city. This year’s BIG WALK will begin at Atlantic Basin Ferry Landing in Red Hook, Brooklyn and travel along the waterfront until we arrive at the upper reaches of the Gowanus Canal. Checkpoints along the route will include short presentations from special guests who will introduce us to the many different occupants–people, animals, and plants–who have inhabited these lands and waters over time.
Checkpoints will include Louis Valentino, Jr. Park, the Waterfront Museum, the GBX Gowanus Bay Terminal Columbia Street Grain Elevator, Culver Viaduct, and the Gowanus Dredgers Boathouse.
The BIG WALK is sponsored by the Gallatin School of Individualized Study at New York University, with co-sponsorship from the Urban Democracy Lab, Gallatin WetLab, openEARTHstudio and the Gallatin Design Collective.
