SALVAGE: Queer Pride Clothing and Book Swap

So much trans and queer history, pride, stories, and celebration exists through fashion, clothing, and books. Celebrating this tradition, Gallatin introduces SALVAGE: Queer Pride Clothing and Book Swap! LGBTQ+ identified and allied students, staff and faculty across Gallatin and NYU are invited to celebrate Pride month by shedding items that no longer work for them, in hopes of finding new ones that best align with their vision of themselves. This swap is intended to be a safe space for attendees to explore and express themselves through their sense of style.

When participants arrive on the day of the event, they will be encouraged to bring at least one article of clothing, accessory item, or one book to participate in the swap. Participants will donate their item, then will be able to peruse around the space to see what pieces speak to them. Participants will be allowed to take up to 5 items from the Clothing/Book Swap. In keeping with queer multimedia traditions, attendees will also be able to use STAC’s button maker to create Pride pins to celebrate themselves! Any leftover items will be donated to Out My Closet and Housing Works, two LGBTQ+ organizations.

In advance of the event on June 20, Gallatin Student Life will be collecting donations to supplement the reserve of swap items. Donations for SALVAGE will begin the week of April 24, 2023 in the Gallatin Student Lounge Room 522.
