GALLATIN FASHION WEEK | Fashion: An Interdisciplinary Approach

Join us for an engaging panel discussion that brings together wide ranging faculty working on the study of fashion at NYU Gallatin, NYU Florence, and NYU Abu Dhabi.

Fashion studies emerge as a vibrant and interdisciplinary intellectual inquiry that unravels the complex tapestry of clothing and its profound societal implications. Rooted in a convergence of disciplines, including art, sociology, history, cultural studies, psychology, and business, fashion studies provide a nuanced lens through which scholars examine the intricate relationships between garments, identity, and societal norms. It delves into the historical, social, and cultural contexts shaping fashion, unraveling the narratives woven into fabrics and styles. Simultaneously, it scrutinizes economic structures, technological innovations, and ethical considerations within the industry, positioning fashion studies at the crossroads of tradition and modernity. By fostering a holistic understanding of clothing as a medium of cultural expression and economic activity, fashion studies contribute to a rich and interconnected intellectual landscape, inviting scholars to explore the multifaceted dimensions of this compelling and ever-evolving field.
